For my Photoblitz I decided to do the assignment in my own apartment (mainly because it was raining outside), so all of the pictures are weird things sitting around my apartment. This was a really fun assignment, even though I think I annoyed my roommate because I did it early in the morning, and it was a real challenge, because I limited myself to my apartment.
- A photo where some or all of your subject isn’t in focus – my guinea pigs (of course)
- Make a photo of something you wear coat, gloves, scarf, hat, you name it! – I decided to do part of my halloween costume, because it is more interesting than normal clothes, so here we have me in my fez and bow tie from Doctor Who
- Make a photo containing stone, water and clouds – outside my window, again because it was raining I didn’t actually want to go outside
- Make a photo that emphasises one color much more than any others in the shot – my desk featuring the color purple
- Play with contrasting scale: juxtapose something small with something big! – again Doctor Who! I used my one-inch doctor that I got in Cardiff in front of my Doctor Who poster
- Take a photo of something at an unusual angle – my feet (featuring terrible tan lines) and my living room wall laying upside down on my couch
- Take a picture of something growing. – My apartment only features baby guinea pigs that are growing
I was originally going to do the Journey to Somewhere visual assignment, but decided to create a separate assignment because I wanted to use Knightlab’s Storymaps instead of a Google Presentation. So this is now for my new Story Map Assignment. I had used this website for a previous project and it was really fast and easy. The hardest part about it is that to embed it on a wordpress post, you have to have the Knightlab Timeline plugin installed and activated, insert the sharable link and set to the right parameters for the map you created.
You then post the map through this plug in, otherwise the map will not be embedded right and will only show up as a link.
I made this photo for the Colorize It Assignment
I used a picture that I took in London this summer while crossing the street to get to the changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace. I used photoshop, created a duplicate layer. I then used the quick select tool to select the parts of the photo that I wanted to still have color (the flags) and deleted them from the top layer. I then made the top layer black and white, so that the color left on the bottom layer show through. I think it went well, and it was really fun to make.
For my third visual assignment for the week, I decided to do the Imaginary Places assignment, so I made my version of Cair Paravel from the Chronicles of Narnia.
I used my own pictures from some traveling I did this summer, and used photoshop to put them together. I used a picture of Neuschwanstein Castle that I took in Germany, and a picture of The Lizard that I took in England for the landscape. Cair Paravel is described as being a beautiful castle on the sea, and since C.S. Lewis was writing in England, I thought that he might have been picturing something close to The Lizard.
I used photoshop to open both pictures. I used the Quick Selection tool to grab Neuschwanstein Castle, and cut and pasted onto The Lizard. I then resized the castle to match the landscape and moved it so it was sitting on the cliff.
For my first visual assignment for the week, I chose to make an album cover.
I was given this lovely picture for my cover, which I inverted and changed in Photoshop. The name of my band in “Roman Catholicism in Kenya” and the name of our newest album is “States and all their Clans are Preserved” (which is from this quote by Confucius) .
I had a lot of fun working on this visual assignment because it was very random, a lot of fun, and pretty easy.
For my third assignment of the week, I decided to take the Rock ‘n Roll ‘n GIF assignment and apply it to the season 2 episode 1 of The Wire. I decided that the bar scene was perfect for this assignment because not only is there a band playing (The Nighthawks) but the crew from the docks were all hanging out together, drinking, and talking about the good old days.
I made these gifs the same way I made the ones for last week’s assignment. I used MPEG Streamclip to trim the video down and export it as images and then used GIMP to open them as layers and save as a gif. I did decide not to do any of the dialogue in this scene because I don’t think it went with the band theme of them listening to music, dancing, and drinking.
For my first go at an assignment of my choice, I decided to do the Triple Troll, because who wouldn’t want to triple troll people for a grade?
I decided to take a line that I have previously used in one of my gifs for last weeks assignment. For some reason I really liked this line. It’s terrible. It’s not even funny. It’s a very real glimpse of the types of jokes that real life cops make to deal with terrible situations.
I then attributed it to Kima, mainly because she is my favorite of the cops, but also it sounds like something she would say (followed of course by a “shiiiiit” as she does).
I then put it over a picture of another one of my favorite characters, Bubbles. Taken all together, this (in my mind at least) sounds like something that Kima might actually say about Bubbles’s long term dope addiction and everything he goes through for it.
I would like to think that this is a good fit all together, and that it might successfully troll someone, because really that’s why I’m here
I made this post by googling googling pictures of Bubbles, and then using GIMP to add the text to it.
